April Update: Almost There!
about 1 month ago – Mon, Apr 01, 2024 at 07:41:18 AM

Hi friends,

We're at the end of the line here, and I expect packages to start shipping out shortly, but I wanted to go ahead and give a short update since it's been a minute. Since I last wrote, the shipment of the hardcover books has reached our UK partners and they are ready to go. I'm told our books have been offloaded in Baltimore, so they should reach the fulfillment center any day now.

We actually got pretty lucky with the U.S. shipment, as our books reached the port just a day or two before the ship struck the bridge that collapsed. Our books arrived safe and sound though, and I'm waiting on an update regarding final delivery.

So what's left? One of the minor delays we've ran into are the dice. In the first batch, a few dozen ended up being defective. The manufacturer agreed to remake the entire order which has taken a little time. While I had hoped to have the dice in hand by now, they should be shipping out via air mail any day now. Assuming everything goes well, they are expected to reach the fulfillment centers within a week.

That just leaves the softcover books, including the journals and the encounters book. The encounters books are printed and should arrive in the UK tomorrow and the US next Monday. I had something else minor to iron out with the journals but those should arrive a few days after the Encounters book.

Last but not least, we're making headway on the VTT conversions, I will have more information on those soon. Thank you for your patience with us!

Zander's Guide to Zombie Hunting is Live on Kickstarter!
about 2 months ago – Tue, Mar 12, 2024 at 10:29:22 AM

Our next Kickstarter campaign, Zander's Guide to Zombie Hunting, is live! I'm very excited about this one since we're returning to our Grizelda's roots. We've got lots of subclasses, magic items, monsters, and tools to build a campaign in a zombie apocalypse.

I am possibly most excited about our new custom class, the Animist. a mixture of alchemy and necromancy, the Animist is a caster class focused on bringing the inanimate to life. The first subclass might be of interest to all you ghost hunters. Since we hadn't designed this class yet when Grizelda's came out, I wanted to include something that would appeal to fans of the ectoplasm. The class is designed by Ben Huffman, who is best known for popular custom classes including The Pugilist.

Books are Headed to Fulfilment Centers
2 months ago – Wed, Feb 21, 2024 at 11:32:16 AM

Printing wrapped up last week, and I've been notified that the hardcover copies of Grizelda's Cursed Curiosities are on the move! This time, we're using two different fulfilment partners: Flying Could Logistics in the U.S. and Gamesquest in the UK. Flying Cloud will handle North America, and Gamesquest will fulfill to everyone else.

We expect the books to reach the UK center next week, and the U.S. a few weeks after that. We're also wrapping up the production for the rest of the physical rewards, with our partners in China beginning the dice molding process today. I'll have another update once I get more information about timelines from our partners. I anticipate UK/EU/Rest of World to start fulfilling slightly sooner than the U.S., but we're looking at a difference of maybe a week or two at most.

Thanks again for your patience, i'm excited to see what you think once it's in your hands.

Printed standard cover books prior to being boxed up.

If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, the free preview for Zander's Guide to Zombie Hunting is here! The PDF comes with two subclasses (Barbarian and Wizard) to playtest, plus a couple of monsters to keep you busy. We're excited about this one!

Printing Update, Grizelda's Lost Journals, and the Zombie Apocalypse
3 months ago – Tue, Jan 23, 2024 at 12:06:26 PM

Hi friends,

We've got a few pieces of information for you today!

Printing Update

After more back and forth with the printer than I care to relive, I can confirm production of the books is moving forward! I'm so excited to have this one in our hands, and I should have an estimated date of completion for the printing shortly. We're putting all the other pieces into motion for physical rewards as well, meaning we're getting close to the finish line.

Grizelda's Lost Journals

If you picked up the Grizelda's Lost Journals PDF as an add-on or in your pledge tier, you'll find it in your BackerKit digital files. You should also have received an email from BackerKit about the download being available. If you remember, this is a collection of player options (and a new monster) that didn't make the cut for our previous book, Grizelda's Guide to Ghost Hunting. Enjoy!

Zander's Guide to Zombie Hunting is Coming

Our next Kickstarter campaign - likely our major project for the year - is launching in March! Zander's Guide to Zombie Hunting is packed with everything you need to raise the dead or survive the zombie apocalypse in a 5E campaign. It includes tons of new player options, including our first custom class - The Animist - designed by Ben Huffman. Ben is best known for designing the popular Pugilist class, and I'm excited about what he's working on for us. Additionally, the project will include:

  • New subclasses
  • New spells
  • New magical items
  • A new lineage: The Bitten
  • A zombie bestiary
  • Adventure hooks
  • A guide to building a zombie apocalypse campaign

You can follow our prelaunch page now and be the first to get notified on launch.

Ghostly Encounters and a January Update
4 months ago – Tue, Jan 02, 2024 at 09:38:35 AM

Happy new year!

For those of you that picked up the Ghostly Encounters add-on, you should have received an email from BackerKit by now regarding your digital download. That's right, the PDF is here! I'm happy with how this one turned out and think it's a pretty unique, I hope you enjoy it.

I'm also nearly done with final edits on Lost Journals. I hope to have that PDF to backers next week.

As far as print book news goes, December was a little on the frustrating side as we spent the month going back and forth with the printer. This is similar to the process for Guide to Ghost Hunting, but it had been my hope that with our previous experience under our belt, getting the book approved this time would be much simpler. That was not the case. Thankfully, we've submitted the final files and should know by tomorrow when printing will wrap up. It's still our hope to have this headed your way before the end of the month.

Every time I feel like I have a strong grasp on the process of making books, I get a little humbling lesson like this, but it's good to keep learning! I appreciate all of your patience and am excited to have all of the physical rewards in your hands.
